They love having a variety of things to repair!!! Wander down to the Quercus Oregon hall for this months Repair cafe from 10am to 12pm. This month we will be checking ski bindings and tuning skis just in time for the ski season!

There is compelling evidence that dietary patterns that include processed foods and animal products, even in moderation, are the leading cause of modern diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The evidence that plant based diets are health supporting is consistent across all types of research, particularly in regard to whole plant foods.  Changing our eating patterns to include just one plant based meal a day can make measurable improvements to our health and wellbeing.  Those eating healthy vegan or vegetarian diets fare better than those eating even a healthy omnivorous diet. This series of Workshops show how to make the change to a more plant-based diet with simple and delicious recipes, shopping tips and support, to improve your diet for health and longevity. Anni Turnbull is a passionate advocate for the health benefits of plants, having completed a Certificate in Plant Based Nutrition through E-Cornell University. Over the next 4 Workshops (second Saturday of each month), Anni Turnbull will entice you with the delicious flavours and textures plant based cooking offers.  Workshop No.3: “DINNERS DONE EASILY” – How to lose weight and thrive.  Starches and Proteins; Energy density for Weightloss; thriving with Diabetes Sunday 9 June 2019 from 12pm to 2pm Enjoy eating what you’ve created!

This Workshop covers all the skill and required knowledge to provide first responses in an emergency, life threatening incident, and casualty management.  Upon successful completion of this course, the candidate will be issued a Statement of Attainment HLTAID003-PFA. The First Aid Group (RTO 32268) 8 hr Workshop (5.5 hrs in house, and up to 3 hrs online pre-course) HLTAID003 – CPR and First Aid Cost:  $145 pp Friday 14 June 2019 – 8.30 am to 2.30pm The pre-course must be completed, signed, and printed before attending the in-house Workshop. Each Student will be assigned their own U.S.I. (unique student identifier)

During his career the Paediatric Urologist Dr Paddy Dewan has promoted quality work, research as a core part of surgical practice,and the concept of the jigsaw puzzle approach to problem solving in medical and surgical care. Paddy will speak to Indigo U3A about his work treating children with surgical problems, both in Australia and in developing countries (with organisations such as Medicins Sans Frontieres). John is visiting Beechworth as Guest Vocal Coach for the Opera Scholars Australia Winter School. Come and hear his anecdotes about his life as an opera singer and the extraordinary roles he has played from Dr Bartolo in the Barber of Seville to Old Deuteronomy in Cats! You will also be treated to a few of John’s favourite songs. This is a free concert open to all.

Do you have a broken household item you’d like fixed but need a hand to do so? Then this is your opportunity. This month we’re featuring mending, tuning skis and checking bindings, sharpening knives and garden tools and bike repairs. Our Repair Café is a free meeting place to bring along broken household items such as furniture, clothing, battery-operated appliances, scratched CDs-DVDs and bikes and learn how to fix them with the help of experienced, volunteer repairers. You can also bring along small, blunt garden tools like secateurs and we’ll show you how to sharpen them.

Indigo Shire Council are supporting Dying to Know Day 2019 by hosting a Death Cafe. Nicole Stephens, End of Life Doula, from Stepping Beyond will facilitate the cafe over morning tea generously supplied by local businesses. A Death Cafe provides a safe space for all people to come together to talk an ask questions about planning for end of life. There will also be representatives from NE Funerals, The Beechworth Cemetery Trust, Helen McGowan – Will specialist and End of Life Planner, Cynthia Bird – Changeworks, Health professionals specialising in advanced care directorates and many more who will be available to talk to.

In one day, we can show you how to make pretty undies that fit you perfectly, out of just about any fabric you choose! You don’t need an overlocker or special machines. You just need to know your way around an ordinary sewing machine. You’ll need to bring your lunch and own sewing machine.

3 week workshop commencing Wednesday 4th September 5pm – 6:30pm As a follow on from the Kerferd Oration there will be a series of workshops which will focus on developing interpersonal communication skills to enhance our capacity to “listen”.    The workshops are hands-on and will involve individual work, paired work, and group work as well as some teaching to explore and develop our understanding of what it means to ‘listen’. The workshops will have a generalist approach and will not be about teaching therapy, but it will give you a tool kit of skills to enhance your capacity to listen more effectively. Each workshop builds on what is learnt from the previous workshop.   Session 1: Knowing yourself, knowing others. Session 2: Putting it together – an exploration of using the skills in conversation. Session 3: Reflections – an exploration of the learning’s and understanding that have come from “listening”   You will need to bring pencil and paper to make your own notes. There will be no study notes supplied.
