Richard is an ecologist with special interests in forests, fire, wetlands, threatened species, migration and conservation.  He holds adjunct positions at La Trobe, Charles Sturt and Melbourne Universities and was awarded the D.L. Serventy Medal in 2014. Richard developed the timed area-search method for counting bush-birds and instigated many long-term monitoring programs on bush birds and waterbirds. He is known for his work on despotic birds, insects and tree dieback, and on contentious issues such as duck hunting, fire and logging.  His team’s work on forest owls led to 170,000 ha of state forest being protected to conserve those birds and the ecosystems on which they depend. Richard will tell us about aspects of his work and how birds and people can shape our shared global environment.  Birds provide a unique window on the natural world, and can help us conserve its extraordinary diversity.

Book to collect an audition pac and a time slot. Bombshells exposes six women balancing their inner and outer lives with humour and often desperate cunning. They range in age from a feisty teenager to a 64 year old widow yearning for the unexpected. “The women I have written about in Bombshells struggle sometimes hilariously, sometimes tragically, to bridge the chasm between the wilderness of their inner worlds and the demands of their outer worlds. There is compelling evidence that dietary patterns that include processed foods and animal products, even in moderation, are the leading cause of modern diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The evidence that plant based diets are health supporting is consistent across all types of research, particularly in regard to whole plant foods.  Changing our eating patterns to include just one plant based meal a day can make measurable improvements to our health and wellbeing.  Those eating healthy vegan or vegetarian diets fare better than those eating even a healthy omnivorous diet. This series of Workshops show how to make the change to a more plant-based diet with simple and delicious recipes, shopping tips and support, to improve your diet for health and longevity. Anni Turnbull is a passionate advocate for the health benefits of plants, having completed a Certificate in Plant Based Nutrition through E-Cornell University. Over the next 4 Workshops (second Saturday of each month), Anni will entice you with the delicious flavours and textures plant based cooking offers.  Workshop No.1: “LAZY LUNCHES” – Quick, substantial meals that are portable, filling or light.   Saturday 13 April 2019 from 6pm to 8pm Enjoy eating what you’ve created and perhaps bring along a beverage to enjoy with the meal.
