GOLD, GOLD, GOLD. Everyone knows we live in what was once a very rich gold mining region. Often I am asked by people how and where to find gold, or gemstones, or how to use a metal detector. I have also met and know many professional small scale miners, semi professional prospectors, hobbyists, beginners, and some who have no knowledge, but are keen to learn. So maybe its time we had a Prospecting Group right here in Beechworth. Nothing too serious, but a place where we can gather to share experiences, share stories, and show some of the wonderful finds we have made out in the bush. We could have information nights and maybe a field trip or two. Maybe even a Mini Miners group for the young ones to learn the basics. Even if you don’t dig, but are interested in mining history you are welcome. Let me know here if you are interested in forming a group.. I am happy to facilitate this but it would be great if a couple of people were available to help also. I propose we have a very informal get together on Saturday November 25 at 3pm. Venue will be at the Old Beechworth Gaol. Open to all prospectors and fossickers of all ages in and around the Indigo Shire.
